Thanks, Anthony. Excellent column. Such a disappointment that too much of what's being produced in this country is disengaged from the urgencies of our time. Earlier in many of our lives, American films were a step ahead and a force in driving the zeitgeist. Look forward to your reflections on the next films on your Sundance calendar!

Well said Anthony!

Mark Cousins once said "documentary kills fascism" but we've reached the point where fascism has killed documentary in America. We need the gatekeepers/financiers to show courage in this moment, and instead they're "risk averse" while we literally are putting our lives on the line for humanity.

Excellent column. I especially appreciate you sharing Rushie's statement: “We have come to understand when you’re making a film, you’re making a film, and the world does what it does. And sometimes, the two things run into each other.“ It's helped me think about my own projects in a different light.

Thanks for putting word to this Anthony! Josephine would be another film of the moment I’d say, and being a narrative feature which is also shot and edited brilliantly, it really stood out from the host of witty dramas mostly providing laughs and escapism

Hi Kathy, yes, you're not the only one who has mentioned Josephine. I am planning to check it out.
